- ON DISCOVERING A MOTTO OF MENANDER APPENDED TO THE
- DIRECTORY ENTRY OF ANOTHER NAMED "J_"
-
- Inasmuch as I was going through the records looking for the entry
- pertaining to the one who I had sought to seek; that is to say I
- sought out the means by which one -- or another -- might seek
- one -- or another -- person or persons so attached to this
- system of signs and signals, and, having found the means of
- doing so, sought to peruse the record in hopes of attaining
- the sought-after name; discovering that that name sadly failed
- to present itself, in all likelihood not yet having been
- set free and afloat in this network of signs and signals, that
- sought-after name being nowhere in evidence, and I, on the
- verge of crestfallenness, dare I say, on the verge of tears,
- I discovered the motto of Menander fixed beneath your own
- entry, amidst the ceaseless and uninteresting stream of
- others which began with the signfier "j"; this motto of
- Menander sending a flash of insight, swift and beautiful
- as lightning, I stopped to capture the rest of the aphoristic
- material attached thereabove, at the terminal site of
- your record; and thus rewarded, I thought to myself,
- I as a composer of aphorisms and capturer of thoughts
- more frequently confused and conflated than not, I should
- let this other "j" know that her aphorisms and mottos
- are well-liked, in far-flung provinces such as mine,
- where I find myself this afternoon, at least, looking
- for one "j" and happily encountering another...
